Viruses that attack Instant Messengers have started to appear frequently lately. And Meebo just came out at the right time! Being a web based IMs client, it pretty much eliminates the threats from IM-viruses (even though that wasn’t the objective of Meebo). Meebo is a website that let you connect to the major IMs such as MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, ICQ, AIM, Jabber and Google Talk, directly from their website without the need to install any client on your computer. All you need is a JavaScript enabled web browser as Meebo is powered by AJAX.
Launched on September 14, Meebo is still on its alpha stage. We’ve tested it for all the IMs, it works pretty well, with the Google Talk alike clean interface. It even notifies you for new incoming messages on your browser’s title bar (or on the tab if you use tab browsing). However, it supports limited and no custom emoticons at the moment.
We like it, it’s convenient and clean. However we wish we can connect to more than one client within one browser tab/window. At the moment, you have to open a new tab/window for every connection.
