It's All About Plastic Bags

Did you know that governments of some countries are imposing levies on plastic bags? Did you know that Hong Kong consumers use 6.7 billion plastic bags a year, or average of 1,294 plastic bags per person? Did you know that Taiwan and Ireland have sharply reduced the use of plastic bags by imposing levies three years ago? Did you know that the Taiwanese, who used to use 909 plastic bags per head, have reduced consumption by 80%; while the Irish, who used to use 256 plastic bags per head, have reduced consumption by 90%?

I didn’t know about these facts until I came across an environmentalist’s blog that concentrates on plastic bags issues. This is what the author, Rajiv Badlani wrote about his blog:
“The world is drowning in plastic waste. The worst culprit are plastic bags. They don’t biodegrade and fly around being eaten by innocent animals and marine life who die horrible, painful deaths because the stuff is indegistable and toxic. This blog discusses the better alternatives that exist.”
