I just watched the blockbuster film War of the Worlds this afternoon. As expected this movie is awesome, except the ending part, which I thought it ended too easily, and also the illogical scene where some guy’s still using his camera recorder when all the electricals and cars have died. Nonetheless, this is the best invasion flick of all time, it’s even better than Independence Day. And comparing with the most recent blockbuster disaster flick, The Day After Tomorrow, War of the Worlds definitely did much better in pulling audiences’ emotions into the movie. I felt I was right there with Tom Cruise experiencing the greatest shock in my life. “WTF is going on? Why is the ground breaking apart? Why are the buildings falling apart?” I bet you could feel the same emotion and fear when the first Tripod in the film was coming out from the ground.
Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning’s actings are as good as they usually are, indeed I think Fanning did better in this film than the other ones before. And she did play a big role in pulling the audiences’ emotions.
I like the analogy in the narration of the film, that we’re like the microorganism under the microscope to the invader from the outer space. And in the end of the film, humans were finally immuned to the invader, just like the viruses/bacteria will eventually become immuned to the medication we applied on them.
